Wearing of Fitted Face Masks in Greater Sydney Region, Central Coast and Wollongong, and ER Code Requirements

Members will be aware that commencing at midnight on Sunday 3rd January, 2021 a new Public Health Order came into effect surrounding the wearing of “face coverings” in certain premises. Whilst the news reports concentrated on hospitality venues inclusive of shopping centers, hairdressing salons and tanning salons, members should be aware that the Public Health Order covers many more venues and in our view will apply to many of our members.

Extension of Relief for Tenancies Impacted by COVID-19 Pandemic

Commencing on the 1st January, 2021 the Retail and Other commercial Leases (COVID-19) Regulation (No 3) 2020 came into operation. Members will be aware that since April 2020 tenants that have qualified for receipt of monies under the JobKeeper scheme have been able to negotiate a reduction in their rental payments to landlords consistent with the reduction in turnover experienced by the tenant’s business during the pandemic.

Fuel thieves targeted after launch of fail-to-pay stickers at service stations

Drivers who fail to pay for petrol are in the sights of Burwood Police Area Command, with officers placing stickers on fuel bowsers to target fraudsters. The initiative has been launched by the command in conjunction with the Motor Traders’ Association (MTA) of NSW to tackle fuel theft offences in the inner west area, including Burwood, Strathfield, Ashfield, Concord, and Drummoyne.
