MTA NSW welcomes public consultation on Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation

The Motor Traders' Association of New South Wales (MTA NSW) welcomes the commencement of public consultation on the draft Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation, which will run until 30 May, 2025.
The current Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation is set to expire on 1 September, 2025. This consultation will help shape regulations that govern buying, selling, and repairing motor vehicles across New South Wales.
"The automotive industry is experiencing its most significant transformation in over a century," said Collin Jennings, Head of Government Relations and Advocacy at MTA NSW.
"We've advocated persistently for regulatory frameworks that protect consumers while ensuring our industry can adapt to new technologies, particularly as we transition to electric vehicles."
Key changes in the proposed regulation include expanded compensation funding, electronic record-keeping allowances, strengthened enforcement powers, and important updates to repair classes and qualifications.
MTA NSW encourages all industry stakeholders to participate in this important consultation process before the 30 May deadline.
"We thank the NSW Government for its engagement with industry throughout this process," Jennings added. "MTA NSW will examine the draft regulations carefully to ensure the proposed changes benefit consumers while supporting the thousands of automotive businesses across our state."
