Issues with PPSR searches and product recalls

MTA NSW has recently been informed of some concerns raised by Motor Dealers including some other states about the Outstanding Recall feature that was extended on PPSR search other than the original Takata Air Bag recall. Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) informed that participating Motor Dealers (MD) enrolled and using the PPSR were notified in mid-January 2023 that additionally when conducting a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) search on the Personal Property Security Register (PPSR). That the additional feature would allow for a person who conducted a PPSR search to also be informed if that vehicle has an outstanding manufacturers recall.

Inquiry into electric vehicle (EV) Adoption in the ACT

MTA NSW's Head of Government Relations and Advocacy attended a committee hearing in Canberra to discuss the adoption of electric vehicles in the ACT and highlighted the need for affordable electric vehicles and a trained automotive workforce to meet the Territory's ambitious targets. The MTA NSW representative also met with several Ministers to discuss upskilling the ACT automotive workforce.

Brendan O’Connor, to simplify the skills assessment process for migrants seeking to work or move to Australia. In a series of meetings, MTAA representatives discussed with the minister and his advisors about the automotive industry's significant skills shortage and the impact on member businesses.
